Traditional Reef Ball modules that come in eleven sizes and two main styles (Reef Balls or Layer Cakes). They have been used for over 25 years around the world and are inexpensive, proven and easy to install.

Ask your dock or seawall builder if they are authorized Reef Ball installers/resellers or contact Reef Innovations to buy Reef Balls from the factory.

Reef Balls can be permited as piling protectors when your dock is being built or in some areas (such as through the Tampa Bay Watch organization you can join to be part of a group permit). Otherwise you may need an individual permit or you may have to deploy your Reef Ball yourself as a temporary installation or suspend it from your dock. In some locals, you may not need a permit when in doubt ask.

For homeowners with seawalls, you can get a federal exemption (Living Shoreline Permit Exemption #54) if your Reef Balls are within 10 feet of your seawall, your project is less than 500 linear feet and there are no seagrass in the footprint. [Other restrictions may apply]

If you have a large project, you might also consider buying Reef Ball molds and constructing the Reef Balls yourself.
